AAS Scholarship to the International Space University
American Astronautical Society Scholarships
to the International Space University (ISU)
2006 Summer Session in Strasbourg, France or the ISU 2006/2007 Masters Program in Strasbourg, France
The American Astronautical Society (AAS) is pleased to offer two partial scholarships for students to attend the International Space University. Both of these scholarships are available for either the ISU 2006 Summer Session program in Strasbourg, France, July 2-September 4 or the ISU 2006/07 Masters program conducted in Strasbourg, France, September 2006-September 2007. The first scholarship is the $10,000 Lady Mamie Ngan Memorial Scholarship; the second is the annual $3000 AAS Scholarship.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
- Applicants for these scholarships must be U.S. citizens.
- Applicants must have completed an academic qualification at the level of the Bachelor’s degree awarded by an accredited university.
- Applicants must fill out the application form and prepare a one-page essay as indicated on the form. A single application will suffice for the applicant to be considered for both the Lady Mamie Ngan Memorial Scholarship and the AAS Annual Scholarship.
- In the selection process, preference will be given to members and student members of the AAS, and also to members of SEDS (Students for the Exploration and Development of Space).
- The successful candidate will be required to:
- Provide the AAS with a written report on the Summer Session upon completion.
- Prepare, on request, an article on the “ISU experience” for publication in the AAS Space Times magazine
- Serve as an AAS/ISU spokesperson at times and venues to be mutually agreed.
Scholarship Award Administration
Submittal of Applications. The completed application form and essay must be received by AAS no later than December 31, 2005.
Note: Separate application must be made for admission to ISU. In order to be considered for the Lady Mamie Ngan Memorial Scholarship and the AAS Scholarship, this separate application to ISU must meet the University’s December 15, 2005 deadline for the Summer Session Program and the December 31, 2005 deadline for the Masters programs.

Selection of Award Recipient. The decision of the Scholarship Award Committee is considered to be final, and all candidates will be advised of the outcome no later than March 1, 2006.
Disbursement of the Scholarship Award. Disbursement of the scholarship award shall be made by check directly to the International Space University.

Webcast of IBEX Launch on 19 October

The Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) is scheduled for launch on 19 October between 1:44pm and 1:52pm EDT. The IBEX payload contains sensors to detect and map the termination shock of the solar wind at the edge of our solar system. The launch will take place from Kwajalein aboard Orbital Science Corporation’s Pegasus XL rocket. The IBEX spacecraft was also built by Orbital in Dulles, Virginia.
Live streaming video of the countdown and launch will be available at nasa.gov. Coverage begins at 12:15pm and will conclude after payload separation, approximately 12 minutes after launch.

NASA’s Future Forum in Boston, 18 September
The sixth NASA’s Future Forum will be held at the Museum of Science, Boston, on 18 September. The Future Forum is a series of events between NASA personnel — administrators, scientists, engineers — and business, technology, and academic leaders in selected cities as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of NASA. The Future Forum in Boston will focus on space exploration benefits the economic and academic sector in Massachusetts.
